When we eat more, we know we will get fat. When I drink a lot of alcohol, I know for sure that I will have a headache the next morning. When we drive under the influence of alcohol, we choose to die in an accident or to crush someone. When I treat others badly, I know that they will treat me badly if given the chance. When we don't care about other people, we understand that they won't care about us either.
There are certain consequences to choosing or choosing a particular type of life. We can choose freely, but once we choose, the reasons we choose control us. We have equal opportunities to choose our own way of life, but we are different when it comes to following our chosen way of life. Life is like a potter's factory, from which many sizes of pots, jugs, pots can be made. In the same way we can build life the way we want. But different techniques are needed to make different pots.
যখন আমরা বেশি খাই, তখন আমরা জানি আমরা মোটা হবই। যখন বেশি মদ খাই তখন নিশ্চিত জানি পরদিন সকালে মাথা ধরবেই। যখন মদ্যপান করে গাড়ি চালাই , তখন আমরা বেছে নিই যে দুর্ঘটনায় হয় নিজে মারা যাব কিংবা কাউকে চাপা দিয়ে মারব। যখন অপরের সঙ্গে খারাপ ব্যবহার করি তখন জানি যে সেও সুযোগ পেলে আমার সঙ্গে খারাপ ব্যবহার করবে। যখন আমরা অন্য মানুষের তোয়াক্কা করি না, তখন আমরা বুঝেই নিই যে তারাও আমাদের তোয়াক্কা করবে না।
কোন বিশেষ ধরনের জীবন বেছে বা পছন্দ করে নেওয়ার কিছু ফলাফল আছে। স্বাধীনভাবে বেছে নেওয়া যায়, কিন্ত একবার বেছে নেওয়ার পর যে কারনে বেছে নিয়েছি সেই কারণগুলি আমাদের নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে। নিজ নিজ জীবনযাত্রা বাছাইয়ের ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের সমান সুযোগ আছে, কিন্ত আমাদের নির্বাচিত জীবনযাত্রা অনুসরণ করতে গিয়ে আমরা একে অন্যের থেকে ভিন্ন হয়ে পড়ি। জীবন কুমোরের কারখানার মতো, মাটি থেকে অনেক আকারের হাঁড়ি,কলসী,পাত্র তৈরি করতে পারা যায়। একইভাবে আমরা যেভাবে চাই সেভাবেই জীবন গড়ে তুলতে পারি। কিন্ত বিভিন্ন পাত্র তৈরির জন্য ভিন্ন ভিন্ন ধরনের কৌশলের প্র্রয়োজন।
